Governor Henry Schuyler Thibodaux of Louisiana was born before 17 October 1762[1] or on 24 September 1769 in Albany, New York,[2] a son of exiled Acadians Charles Alexis Thibodeau ( - 1779) and Anne Blanchard (1723 - 1769). He apparently was orphaned and then adopted by General Philip Schuyler, an American Revolutionary War hero, who educated Henry in Scotland.[3]

Henry moved to Louisiana (where the spelling of his name changed)[3] by May of 1793, when he married Louisiana-born daughter of Acadians, Felicite Bonvillian, in St. James Parish.[4]

They had three children before she died c.1799:

  1. Leander Baron Thibodaux (1795)[5]
  2. Aubin Benoni Thibodaux (1796)[6]
  3. Eugenie Thibodaux (1798)[7]

Henry married Marguerite Brigitte Belanger (1775 - 1849) on 3 June 1800 in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana.[8]

Their known children were:

  1. Michel Henri Thibodaux (1801)[9]
  2. Brigitte Emelie Thibodaux (1804)[10]
  3. Marie Elmire Thibodaux (1807)[11]
  4. Bannon Goforth Thibodaux (1812)

Henry died on 24 October 1827 near Bayou Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States aged 65. He is buried in Halfway Cemetery, Houma, Louisiana.[2] while campaigning for the governorship, at age 58. He is buried in Halfway Cemetery in Houma, Louisiana.[12] He is the namesake of Thibodaux, Louisiana.
