PIERRE THIBODEAU is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 6 Left. Listed with Pierre is his wife, Francoise Saulnier, and four children: Adelaide, Francoise, Anne Marie and Marie Josephe.[1]
Marie Josèphe Thibodeau, daughter of Pierre Thibodeau and Françoise Saulnier, was born in Acadie c.1754, and only an infant when she and her family were sent into exile by the British during the Seven Years War. Exactly which British colonial port they were deported to, somewhere on the eastern seaboard of the present-day U.S., remains to be discovered. After 1763, when they were freed by the Treaty of Paris, they immigrated to Louisiana and settled in the St. Landry Parish area in the southwest.
Marie Josephe died on 16 April 1817 in Opelousas, Louisiana, aged about 62.[6]

Discussion on Parents
I could find no evidence that these parents (Jean Baptiste Thibodeau and Marie Josephe Lanoue) ever immigrated to Louisiana. However, there are ample records to indicate that this woman did immigrate. The Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville publishes a booklet with all of the Acadians who immigrated to Louisiana during the time of the deportations. (late 1700s). There is only one entry for a woman named Marie Josephe Thibodeau and she is listed on the plaque with her parents Pierre Thibodeau and Francoise Saulnier. I believe these are her parents. Thibodeau-579 & Sonnier-188. Karen Theriot Reader has additional sources which agree with this but it is apparent that her birth date and location are not clearly established. Marie Josephe THIBODEAU
Wendy Pitre Roostan, The Pitre Trail from Acadia "That son was Francois Pitre born c1746 and married to Marie Josephe Thibodeau (d/o Pierre Thibodeau/Francoise Saulnier). Francois reached the Opelousas settlement in the Louisiana territory by about 1766." (Enter Pierre Pitre & Agathe Doucet in search box to find François Pitre's very detailed profile)
Marie Josèphe Thibodeau, daughter of Jean-Baptiste Thibodeau and Marie-Josèphe Lanoue, was deported to South Carolina with her parents, and emigrated to Saint-Domingue (today Haiti) where she married twice (1775 and 1781) and had children.

Sorry everyone, I jumped the gun and changed the parents, thinking it was agreed upon, and finding the profile so hard to read as it was that I felt compelled to fix it. I will restore it if the profile managers are not in agreement with the change.
Several researchers and genealogists indicate that Marie-Josèphe, married to François Pitre, was the daughter of Pierre Thibodeau and Françoise Saulnier. (See research notes)
A profile has been created for Marie Josèphe Thibodeau (1750-) with a baptism record and marriage record showing she was born to Jean-Baptiste Thibodeau and Marie-Josèphe Lanoue, She was deported to South Carolina with her parents, and settled in Saint-Domingue (now Haiti)
There is sufficient evidence to remove Marie-Josèphe from these parents and connect her to Pierre Thibodeau and Françoise Saulnier, if there are no objections.
I agree, this Marie-Josephe is a different person from the daughter of Thibodeau-Lanoue, and should be connected to Thibodeau-Saulnier parents. Thanks for resolving this!
Thanks for approving, Joyce. Karine Soulières, an excellent researcher and great help to the Acadians Project, deserves all the merit. She's the one who signaled this issue to us.
It's been 4 years since Jacqueline posed the question about her parents. Doesn't look like anyone has objected, and I don't see any additional evidence to dispute the change. Any reason not to change the parents now? Thanks!
