Olivier Tibaudaut was born about 1712. He was the son of Pierre Thibodeau and Anne-Marie Aucoin of Chipoudy. He married Isabelle Melansson, daughter of Ambroise Melansson and the late Francoise Bourg 14 Oct 1734 at Beaubassin.[1][2]
In 1752 Olivier and Elisabeth were recorded in a census at Chipoudy with 3 boys and 3 girls. They were still residing there in 1755 with 4 boys and 2 girls. [5] In at least 1752-1755 several siblings lived in Chipoudy: Marguerite, Olivier, Catherine Josephe and Ursule and Pierre together with their spouses.[6]
They managed to escape deportation by fleeing the Beaubassin region. They possibly went further north to the Rivière Saint-Jean area. [5] The family sought refuge in Canada, Nouvelle-France (now Province de Québec) and found a permanent home there. According to historian André-Carl Vachon, Olivier, Elisabeth and their 6 children were aboard a ship that left Miramichi around 3 August 1757 with 182 people, and arrived at the port of Québec on 18 August 1757. [7]
Unfortunately a smallpox epidemic was raging in Quebec in 1756-1757. Many of the 1144 [7] Acadians that reached Quebec City during that period were already exhausted by famine, other diseases and their many displacements trying to escape the roundups of the British soldiers. Approximately 300 Acadian exiles died in the city of Quebec alone. [8] The church register of Notre-Dame-de-Quebec parish shows numerous entries of deceased Acadians indicated by a cross and the letters "acc" or "acad" in the margins.
Their infant daughter Marguerite, born on 18 December 1757, was buried the next day. Elisabeth passed away on 20 December 1757 and Olivier the next day. [9] Other Acadians mentioned on the same page of the register are Joseph Tibaudau, Acadian age 38-cousin of Olivier Thibodeau, and son of Michel Thibodeau and Anne Dugas, and Anne Landri, Acadian age 18.[10].
The Thibodeau descendants settled in Saint-François-de-Beauce, Saint-Joachim, Saint-Jacques-de-l'Achigan, Cap-Santé. [5]
