At the beginning of the month I did meet a possible living Blair cousin if my research is correct he is my 4th cousin. Maybe good for DNA. I'll have to wait until I meet with him again...
On WikiTree we do have a naming standard which has nothing to do with pride. We want to use the name they were born with, what is on their primary document of birth. For the profiles that fall within the Acadian project, there is a naming standard which adopts what Stephen A. White uses. See here: Acadian Project Names. Caution is advised! Thanks for writing--it's a complicated issue.
You do great work I'm proud have my cousin
Now that you have had a little time to try our site, there are a few more features you may find useful:
For instance, ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards; including some tips on writing biographies
Also a friendly reminder about adding sources and references to your profile. Sources are critically important for genealogy and you will be helping future genealogists by listing where the information you've added came from. This page describes different kinds of sources: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
You are now a confirmed member of WikiTree! Thank you for volunteering and sharing. Have fun and please ask for help if you need it! WikiTree members are always eager to offer guidance to a fellow genealogist. You can also join in on the conversation about our question of the week: Going back in time: What burning question would you ask which ancestor If you need additional help, our Mentors Project is a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to assist you with WikiTree-specific problems. You may want to edit your TAGS to include more surnames and one surname per TAG as this will allow you to find others searching for the same surnames
Enjoy the experience,
Bill D :-D
Welcome to WikiTree! The email you just got from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site youve ever used.
WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!
When you confirm your email address, youll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests -- fill in at least one of your Tags with the names, locations or historical events you're researching and click the "Save Tag(s) and Volunteer" button. One of our Greeters will come along and confirm your membership, and youll be on your way!
Welcome to the family! Were really glad youre here.
