Born about 1718, Alexander Thistlethwayte was son of Alexander Thistlethwayte of Compton Valence in Dorset and his wife, Mary Whithed, of Southwick in Hampshire. [1] He succeeded his father in 1728, aged about ten years. [1] He was educated at Wadham College, Oxford. [1]
In 1741 he married Catherine Randall, daughter of E. Randall of Salisbury. [1] The couple had three daughters. [1]
His second wife was Mary Strong daughter of William Strong of Chalk in Kent and widow of a man called Rolls.[1]
In 1751 he succeeded to the Whithead estates on the death of his younger brother Francis (Thistlethwayte) Whithed, M.P. [1]He also followed his brother as Member of Parliament for Hampshire, serving from 1751 to 1761.[1]
Alexander died on the 15th of October 1771. [1]
