Eliza Ann Thomas (Oldham) was the daughter of Andrew Byland Thomas (1848 - 1924) and Sarah Elizabeth Tippy (aka Wemmer) Thomas (1852-1926).
Andrew is the son of Hugh Thomas (1816-1901) and Elizabeth "Betsy" (Byland) Thomas (1826-1854). I have seen an alternate date of birth for Hugh Thomas of 1827. I don't know whether 1816 or 1827 is correct. *
Hugh is the son of Major Thomas (1792-1858) and Elisabeth Sophie (Housner) Thomas (1803-1845).
His birth date varies in censuses and obit; earliest reported in 1850 gives 1827, 1860 says 1824, 1870 says 1825, 1880 says 1826, 1900 says Jan 1832, and his 1901 obit says he was 85 years old but provides no specific biography details, but 1816 seems unsupported by info given during life:

Death of an Old Soldier
One by one the veterans of the civil war are dropping out of the ranks. The last one in Bedford to answer to the call is Hugh Thomas, who recently built a new home on south Court Street, at the age of 85 years. He had been in bad health for several weeks. The funeral exercises were conducted at the home by Elder J. W. Walters. Interment in Bedford cemetery. Those who mourn have the sympathy of the Bedford people.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Hugh by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Hugh:
Thomas-16957 and Thomas-17223 appear to represent the same person because: Other than birth dates not matching--and I added info detailing how his reported birth date varied in life and in his obit--these are clearly the same person. His parents match, siblings, etc
