Harry was born on February 20,1909 in Wilmerding, Allegheny, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Ephraim Thomas and Helen Smith. He enjoyed a distinguished career with the United States Government.
He began his business career in 1930 at the age of 21 as a bookkeeper at the Mellon National Bank in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh by 1938.
In 1939 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the rank of Lt. Commander. He married Margaret Gerard of New Zealand sometime before 1949.
About 1952, Harry and Margaret were living in Germany. He was the ICA Controller for the UN Command. About 1954, he was serving in the same capacity in Madrid, Spain.
In October, 1956 they were in Seoul, Soul-t'ukpyolsi, South Korea. Harry was still with the ICA as Controller in the office of the economic coordinator for the United Nations.
In 1958 Harry was Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Admin. for the U.N. in Kabul , Afghanistan
Harry passed away on October 5, 1963 in Washington, DC. He is buried in Arlington Cemetery, VA. His burial spot is just down the hill from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Find-A-Grave Mem. #49324518

Uncle Harry would bring me a doll dressed in native costume from every country he lived in and visited. I had quite a collection by the time I graduated high school! I remember him as being very kind and soft spoken. He visited us often in Santa Cruz.
