Biography

Tristram Thomas II. Born ca. 1579 in Sundridge , Kent , England and buried Jan. 20, 1640 at Sundridge.[1] The burial record lists him as a resident of Brooke Place. He married Elizabeth Marsh of Westerham, Kent Co., England , a town a few miles south of Sundridge and Sevenoaks. In his Will, he mentioned “land bought of Mr. Martin Barnham, who has just been knighted", and land leased from Mr. Christopher Emerson, “Dryhill Farm”. His estate, “Pollard” at Sevenoaks was already in the hands of his son, Edmond-landland at Alford, and Shoreham-all nearby, and near London and Gravesend , England , from which Christopher Thomas sailed in 1635 to VA. Tristram mentioned that his son, Christopher Thomas had already been given his inheritance. He requested that he be buried at the Parish Church at Sundridge. The will of Tristram Thomas is available for ordering.[2][3]

7 April 1615: Tristram Thomas of Sundridge, yeoman, in £10, to appear, answer and to keep the peace; sureties, Edmund Thomas of Chevening, and Henry Maunaye of Sundridge, yeomen.[4]

Thomas-19390 and Thomas-2960 appear to represent the same person because: all dates are similar, but do not have primary sources, so they may be off, same wife and child, Mary

Elizabeth Marsh was most likely a sister to Christopher, instead of a spouse:

Christopher Thomas left his brother (brother-in-law), Raph Marsh of Westerham, an annuity of 40 shillings paid half yearly. Raph Marsh married Elizabeth Thomas (baptized 29 April 1571). Since Tristram Thomas (will dated 21 March 1639), brother of Christopher Thomas (will dated 26 Sept 1635), also mentioned him in his will, we have additional proof Christopher Thomas (1635) and Tristram Thomas (1639) are brothers and Elizabeth Thomas Marsh is their sister. She probably died shortly after her marriage to Raph Marsh and may have left no children from their marriage. It appears Raph Marsh may have been in poor health in 1635 with little income.
