Lodwick Thomas was born in 1810 in the small village of Brynmenyn, midway between Cardiff and Swansea (and on the northern side of the M4), Glamorgan, Wales, United Kingdom. Lodwick is the Welsh version of the Latin name 'Ludovicus' (Luda + Old English wīc 'dairy farm'). There was a 'Ludwick Hall' in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, a village of Saxon origin.
Like his parents before him, no doubt, Lodwick was a dairy farmer.
Lodwick married Mary unknown about 1836 in Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr (Bridgend), adjacent to Brynmenyn on the southern side of the M4. They made their home in Brynmenyn, having at least two sons.
He passed away in 1860 in Brynmenyn.
