Biography

Louis Franklin Thomas was likely born on 9 Mar 1845[1][2][3] in Nashville, Tennessee, United States of America[1][2][3] to Lewis L Thomas[4][2] and Elizabeth[4].
Corporal Louis Thomas served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: Jun 8, 1863
Mustered out: Aug 24, 1865
Side: USA
Regiment(s): 2nd Regiment, Missouri Light Artillery, Companies A and D

Louis served with the Union troops in the US Civil War.[1][5][6][3] He enlisted as a private.[5] He served in the 2nd MO Light Artillery, Companies A[1][5][6] and D[5] from 8 Jun 1863 through 24 Aug 1865[6]. His rank at discharge was corporal.[1][5][6]

He married Lorana Evelyn Kinder on 21 Sep 1867 in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri.[7]

Their children were Jason H Thomas[3], Lemuel C Thomas, Horace L Thomas, Richard E Thomas, Willis Manson Thomas[8][3], Sophia C Thomas, Anna Murada Thomas, and Mason William Thomas[9][10][3].[1]

As a young boy, Louis lived in Marshall County, Kentucky[4]. He later lived in Bollinger County[11], Cape Girardeau County[7][12][13][14][15][16][6][17][18] and the city of Cape Girardeau[19][2][3], all in Missouri.

Louis was a farmer[12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][2][3], county court judge[3][20], and township justice of the peace[3].

Louis Franklin Thomas died on 18 Sep 1922 at the home of his son Jason in the Monticello addition in Cape Girardeau.[2][3] He was buried on 20 Sep 1922 at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri[2][3].

In Louis' Civil War pension file, on 2 Jan 1902 Solomon Shanks reports that he had delivered a letter to Louis from Louis' sister Jane Thomas in Nov 1862 in Scott County, Missouri.[1] This sister is likely Eliza J Thomas who was enumerated with the family in the 1850 census.[4]

Louis' obit listed his sister Sarah C (Thomas) Slaughter as surviving him.[3]
