William THOMAS, son of James THOMAS and Anne CURTIS, was born on 15 October 1839 in East Buckland, Devon, United Kingdom, was christened on 17 November 1839 in East Buckland, Devon, United Kingdom [1] [2], died on 22 March 1918 in Vere (near Singleton), New South Wales, Australia [3] at age 78, and was buried on 23 March 1918 in Methodist Cemetery, Singleton, New South Wales, Australia [4]. His cause of death was from bronchial pneumonia.

Immigration ~ 27 July 1857 ~ William and his brother, James, immigrated to Sydney, Colony of New South Wales aboard the "Tartar" [5].

William married Elizabeth SNAPE, daughter of Samuel William SNAPE and Elizabeth CARTER, on 30 April 1866 in Yellow Rock, Broke, Colony of New South Wales [6], and they were the parents of Samuel Henry Thomas, William Edward Thomas, Elizabeth Thomas, Harriet E S Thomas, Mary Ann Thomas, Gertrude Amelia (Thomas) Croft, James Stephen Patrick Thomas, Ada Ethel Melinda Thomas, John Richard (Jack) Thomas, and Lillian M E Thomas.

Elizabeth was born on 10 February 1846 in "Glendon", Patricks Plains, Colony of New South Wales, was christened on 5 July 1846 in Church of England Parish of Whittingham, Colony of New South Wales, died on 24 February 1928 in Singleton, New South Wales, Australia at age 82, and was buried on 25 February 1928 in Methodist Cemetery, Singleton, New South Wales, Australia.

    DEATH OF MR WM. THOMAS
    One of the oldest settlers in this district, in the person of Mr William Thomas, passed away at his residence, Vere, yesterday morning. Deceased was 78 years of age, and 61 years of his long and useful life were passed at Broke and Vere, where he followed farming pursuits, and was highly esteemed and respected by a large number of friends. The late Mr Thomas was born in Devonshire (Eng.), and came to New South Wales when 17 years of age. At the age of 26 he was married at Broke to Miss Elizabeth Snape, daughter of the late Samuel Snape, of Yellow Rock. Deceased enjoyed excellent health, and had only been ailing since Sunday from an attack of bronchial pneumonia. He leaves a widow, three sons and four daughters. The sons are Messrs Samuel H. (Scone), James (Vere), and John (Culcairn); and the daughters are Mrs E. J. Head (Singleton), Mrs A. E. Croft (Sydney), Miss Ada Ethel Thomas (matron of the Industrial Home, Parramatta), and Mrs J. Hart (Lithgow). The funeral will leave deceased's late residence at 12 o'clock to-day, and the interment will take place in the Methodist cemetery, Singleton, at 3 o'clock.
