Research Notes

Parents

This profile originally had parents George Thomas and Susanna Shreve attached. This assignment is apparently based solely on the word of Dr. Tom D. Clarke as presented on some websites. However, no primary sources have been located to confirm any of the dates, names, or connection of Richard with those parents. Some of this information is suspect, such as the naming of a sister "Susannah Thomas in the 1719 of will of Elizabeth (Sheriff/Shreve) Carter. If this is the same Susannh, this record is in conflict with her having died by 1708 as stated by Dr. Clarke.

Numerous land records involve both Richard (identifiable as the only Richard Thomas, shipwright living in Bristol Co. Rhode Island/Massachusetts at this time) and children or grandchildren of John Thomas. It would not be surprising if someday a record shows Richard was a nephew of John or indeed his son, except this is cast in doubt by the fact that John named many sons in his will, none named Richard.

Land Records

26 December 1755 -- Richard Thomas of Warren, shipwright and his wife Susannah deed 27 acres at Rehoboth to Nathan Munro of Rehoboth.[3]

17 November 1759 -- Richard Thomas of Warren, shipwright, and Susannah his wife deed 24 square rods of land at Warren to John Kelley. The deed names son Samuel Thomas heir-at-law to Richard's late wife Mary.[4]
