The death of Mr. John Bevan Thomas took place at his residence "Cawnpore," Warrandyte, recently. He was a colonist of 70 years, coming to Australia in the "Great Britain," one of the first steamers, and carrying guns as against the pirates, in 1852. The deceased gentleman followed mining pursuits all his life, going to Ballarat diggings in its eary stages. With others, over on a hill, he witnessed the riots of the Eureka Stockade, when Peter Lawlor and James McGill were conspicuous for their part in connection with it. Deceased leaves a family of 6 sons and 5 daughters. His wife predeceased him 26 years ago. He was born in Cornwall, and lived to the age of 94 years.
