P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hello Cheryl, I'm afraid I didn't have the patience to work with the raw records and manual data entry to add to my tree on WikiTree. I paid for a full access (discounted) membership on myheritage.com in order to have easy access to all matching records which I can automatically add to my tree. Granted, there issues with it, such as ghost trees being auto created due to slight differences in records. But I think WikiTree is a good free resource to compare and match what I can now get on Myheritage site.

The Gedcom that I downloaded from MyHeritage somehow left out 10 critical people in my tree! Does that happen often? In the Gedcompare listing, my grandfathers name is not listed. It left out the first 10 names in my tree.

Hi David,

Thank you for your questions on where to find records. This site is free to members, and we all volunteer to add our family and sources.

If you go to one of the profiles you have entered, look on the right side of the page. Scroll down past COLLABORATION TO ROOTSSEARCH,

CLICK that, which provides 20 sites to search for records. You use the same email and password as you do to log in to WikiTree. Rootsweb is free and a good one I use, is FamilySearch.org is free. All you have to do is set up a password and remember it, Once in, click on Search and Records (NOT Trees)

I personally do not use My Heritage as it does not have sources.

Enjoy WikiTree

Thank you Mary, I found those sources and now I need to find out which are most helpful to me. Many of them seem to require membership. I'll try FamilySearch.org. I found some census listings but I don't know if sifting through censes microfilm photos is the most efficient way! Thanks for your help!

I was hoping to get access to data records through this site, but it only searches through other sites that are paid, Ancestry.com, MyHeritage.com. Are there any records that are accessible through this site (other than google search)? Otherwise I don't need to be here. I need access to census, marriage records, army draft conscription, etc. Thanks. I already pay for limited access on MyHeritage.com, and if I pay a lot more I can access all their records. Would you just recommend that? Or is there a free way to actually find those documents for my relatives? Thanks!

Thank you for your help. One more question. I just uploaded a GEDCOM file and it hasn't been added yet. In the meantime I'm adding some of my close family by creating profiles for them. Should I wait until the GEDCOM registers before adding those new profiles?

Hi David and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Happy tree climbing

Hi Cheryl, I'd like to add my father mother and sister. But when I click on "add father" it opens up another page with my private view, and does the same thing for add mother, etc. My profile is new and I just uploaded a GEDCOM file
