Ray Thomas was a founding member of The Moody Blues. A very non-traditional rock and pop star who played the flute, he was a welcome foil and a differing lead vocal on each of the band's biggest albums.
He was born during WWII, the grandson of a Welsh miner/carpenter/wood carver.
He died of undisclosed causes, perhaps prostate cancer, in January 2018.
He was active in music from 1960 until his death.
His flute solo on the band's 1967 hit single "Nights in White Satin" is regarded as one of progressive rock's defining moments.
He also released two solo albums, including "From Mighty Oaks".
He was inducted into The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame with The Moody Blues in April 2018.
It is difficult to express how much his, and the band's, music has meant to me in my life.
