Initially a difficult family to trace as the children of John and Ann were all variations of "Thomason" at their christening.
All Christened at St. Johns, Crossens under Thomases, Thomasson, Thomasason.
John and Ann Were also sometimes Thomason alias Brookfield.
The name Brookfield became set with Thomas & Martha and has been ever since although all used Brookfield at their marriage and on gravestones.
The diversion seems to have occurred at the illegitimate birth of John Thomason (1815) child of John Brookfield and Dorothy Thomason.
