On May 17 1556 had lands rented of John Dunbar of Balntyre near Glasgow at Syide for which he paid a yearly rent of one firlot of barley (a firlot of barley was 3.232 cubic inches, equaled fourth part of a ball. A ball of barley contains 6 bushels) He married MARION COCHRAN, and on Sept. 11 1566 they grant to their son THOMAS THOMSON six ox gangs of earth in Syide (an oxgang was equivalent to 13 acres).
