Biography

According to Thompson family researchers Sarah Thompson, born 1736 in New Haven Conn. married Jonathan Mead (b 1735) in 1758 in Dutchess County NY and died February 10, 1804 in North Norwich Chenango County New York; Sarah is the daughter of Amos Thompson and Sarah Alling or Allen. In 1756 Amos Thompson and daughter Sarah Thompson witnessed the signing of the LW&T of Rev. Stephen Kinney of Dutchess County NY. In March 1791 said LW&T was probated and Sarah Mead, late Sarah Thompson of Washington, Dutchess County, was contacted by the surrogate court to acknowledge her signature as witness to said LW&T. Abstract of the will as published in EIGHTEENTH CENTURY DOCUMENTS OF THE NINE PARTNERS PATENT, DUTCHESS CO., N.Y., comp. by Clifford Buck and William McDermott, 1979.

KENEY, Stephen [of] Crum Elbow; [signed] 6/14/1756, [recorded in Dutchess County Will Book] A, page 240 Mentions: wife, Drusillah [sic]; daughter Anna; sons Stephen, Jessey [sic] Roswell, Nathaniel, Didymus. Refers to land in the Deleware [sic] Purchase [in PA] Executors: wife, Abraham Adams [a long time neighbor] Witnesses: Amos, Asa, and Sara Thompson Probated: March 18, 1791. On March 15, 1791. Sara Mead late Sara Thompson of Washington acknowledged her signature.

Note: The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has since 2018 changed their records to reflect Sarah Thompson as the wife of Lt. Jonathan Mead based on family records provided by his direct ancestors and DAR's own historical records found when researching other related family names to include the Ferris family.
