From History of Logan County, W. VA., by Henry Clay Ragland, Chapter XXII:

William Farley, a brother of Capt. Henry Farley, of Peach Creek, settled near the mouth of Buffalo. He married a Miss Thompson, of Albemarle County, Virginia, and was the father of four sons and one daughter. His sons were William - known as "Punch Bill" - who married a Miss Alen, of Boone; Thompson, who married a Miss Chapman; Nimrod (Father of the late Senator Farley, of California), married a Miss Slater, and Henry, who married a Miss Starr. Henry was quite a prominent citizen, and represented the county in the Virginia Legislature.

From Cabell Co., WV 1809-1996 Heritage - page 171:

William Farley, the third son of Thomas Sr. arrived in Cabell County in 1817. He had purchased land from his brother Henry in Lee County in 1804. He lived there until he sold the land in 1816. He settled on Bears Branch which is a tributary of Beech Creek and the Tug River. This now Mingo County, West Virginia. He and wife Elizabeth Thompson, youngest daughter of William and Mary Patton Thompson had nine children. [submitted by Mary Elizabeth Ferrer]
"After Thomas, Sr. died in 1796, William and Elizabeth lived in Lee Co., Virginia, then appeared in Cabell Co., in 1820 where William bought 125 acres and appears on the Logan Co., Tax list in 1824 when it was formed from Cabell County." (Jean Clark Abshire, Jan 1999).

From Tracing the Farleys' Steps from Virginia to Harlan County:

Many of the settlers in southeast Kentucky had their origins in the New River area of Virginia. One such family is the Farleys.
About 1755, Thomas Farley, who was of English ancestry, settled in that area. He and his wife Judith had a number of children, including a son, William.
William Farley married Elizabeth Thompson and soon afterward moved further west, settling in what is now Lee County, Va., where they remained for the rest of their lives.
Among other children, they had three sons, Thomas, Jesse and Henry, who all moved across the mountains into Harlan County. Forrest Farley, one of William's brothers, also moved across the mountains into Kentucky, living mostly in Perry County.
William's son Thomas was born about 1795.
