Jacob Thompson, born in Ireland, settled in Pennsylvania, where he is shown in the Chester County tax records for London Grove from 1753 to 1763.
Later he moved west to Fayette County, probably after the Revolution when it was safer and land ownership was more reliable once the Pennsylvania-Virginia border dispute was resolved in 1780.
