Hester was born to Quaker parents, Richard Thompson and Susannah Stedman, on 9 February 1786, according to records of the Bush River Monthly Meeting in South Carolina.[1][2]
Esther married John Theopolis Penny (1779-1864) about 1803, the year before the birth of their first child in late 1804. Her gravestone features an alternative spelling of her first name, Esther, and an alternative birth date.[3]
She passed away on 5 December 1860, and was buried at the Old Ludlow Cemetery,
Laura, Miami County, Ohio.
