Biography

Anna THOMPSON b 14 May 1771 Swanzey, Cheshire County, New Hampshire d 13 Feb 1850 Allegany, Cattaraugus County, New York sp : Israel SAWYER

Anne was born in 1771. She was the daughter of Samuel Thompson and Rhoda Smith. She passed away in 1850. Anna was the 4th wife of Israel Sawyer. Her marriage to Israel has not been found but Israel's estate papers name her as wife. The birth records in Swanzey give conflicting information on the birth of children Beulah and Ahaliab. Some naming Anna and others naming Caty Israel's 3rd wife. There are other conflicts within the Swanzey records especially when a man remarried. Someone needs to visit Swanzey and obtain permission to look at the original records to see if this conflict can be resolved. Anna herself is mentioned in a memoir by a descendant of her younger 1/2 sibling Rufus. She apparently helped to raise him as his mother died when he was very young. She clearly was close to children Beulah and Ahaliab, moving to Allegany County, New York following Israel's death. Her sister Rhoda lived in Western New York and a nephew was in Allegany County. Her brother Timothy lived for a time in the area, before moving further west.
