Biography

JACOB TOMSON was born 24 April 1662 in Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay Colony, married 28 December 1693 in Middleboro, Province of Massachusetts Bay, to Abigail Wadsworth, b. 25 October 1670 in Duxbury, Massachusetts Bay Colony, d/o John Wadsworth and Abigail Andrews. (The will of John Wadsworth Sr. of Duxbury dated 23 April 1700 names son-in-law, Jacob Tomson.) Jacob died intestate on 1 September 1726 in Middleboro: Find A Grave: Memorial #39833644 Jacob Tomson. His inventory was taken on 7 March 1726/7 in Middleborough. His estate was divided among his widow Abigail, and his children, Jacob, John, Barnabas, Caleb, Abigail Packard, Mercy Bennett, Lidia Packard, Esther Tomson, Hannah Tomson, and Mercy Tomson.[1]

On 22 September of that year [1726] his oldest son, Jacob Tomson was named administrator.[2] The inventory of estate shows that he owned large amounts of real estate. On 11 May 1727, receipts were signed by Jonathan Packard and Abigail Packard; John Packard and Lydia Packard; and Nehemiah Bennett and Mercy Bennett. On 26 May 1727 Thomas Tomson (brother of Jacob) was guardian of minor children, Esther, Hannah and Mary Tomson. Jacob's estate was settled on 1 July 1728, naming widow, Abigail, sons: Jacob, John, Barnabas and Caleb; and daughters Abigail Packard, Mercy Bennett, Lydia Packard, and Esther, Hannah and Mary Tomson. Jacob's wife, Abigail (Wadsworth) Tomson died in Halifax, Massachusetts on 15 January 1744. She left a will dated 16 April 1739 and proved 4 February 1744, naming daughters Abigail Packard, Mercy Bennet, Lydia Packard, Hannah Reed, Ester Bennet and Mary Tomson.
