Charlotte (Thompson) Windley was born in England.

Notes: This Profile requires work.

It is would seem that Charlotte was born Macrow but her Surname was recorded as Thompson on her marriage register to William Arnold. Her parents are named as Thomas and Harriett Macrow on Charlotte's Immigration record on arrival in Australia so I am certain her last name on the Marriage record is an incorrect entry, of her mother's last name, by the person who recorded the marriage in the Parish Registers. It happens!

Charlotte Thompson (or Macrow) was born in about 1826 in Tottington, Essex, England[1].[2], the daughter of Thomas Macrow and Charlotte Thompson.

She married William Arnold on 8 October 1848 in Hockwold, Norfolk, England[3][4][5][6] and had three sons, William Arnold, Albert Arnold and Frederick Arnold.

Charlotte and William are in the 1851 Census, living at Thetford, England. Charlotte was aged 26[7].

Charlotte, her husband William Arnold and son Frederick traveled to Sydney as assisted migrants, arriving in New South Wales, Australia on 1 September 1853. Their sons William and Albert are not listed and as William was buried on 16 December 1849 aged seven months and Albert was buried on 4 October 1850, 3 days after his christening[8]. Charlotte was noted as being born about 1826 in Tottington Norfolk, England.

On 31 January 1855, Charlotte's husband William 'had passed through the town' of Appin, New South Wales, Australia, 'in the morning driving cattle for a Mr. Gallagher, with whom he was hired.' , when he was found dead just 'four miles' out of the town. After an initial suspicion of foul play, the Coroner's Inquest returned a verdict of 'death from natural causes' . He was buried at St Mark's Anglican Cemetery in Appin, New South Wales, Australia[9][10].

Charlotte married William Windley on 22 June 1855 in Jamberoo, New South Wales, Australia[11]and were the parents of Walter Arthur Windley, Abraham John Windley and John Windley.

The 1891 Census was taken on the 5 April 1891 and Charlotte was living at No. 57 Benandarah, Nelligen, New South Wales Australia, next door to her son John at No. 56 with her son Walter living in the same street at No. 71. [12][13] It would seem that Benandarah was actually the Benandra Station, and in current times there is an area named Benandarah on the edge of Nelligen[14].

Charlotte died on 2 January 1906 at Benandara Station, New South Wales, Australia[15].
