In the spring of 1748, while in the act of unloading timber, Samuel received a severe injury which was followed by a fever, resulting in his death in Woburn, on May 13, 1748, at the age of 42. He was buried at the First Burial Ground in Woburn, where his gravestone reads:[1][3][6]
