Alexander was born in 1881 in Bathurst Township, Lanark County, Ontario. He is the son of John Thompson and Mary Dougherty her name elsewhere written Docherty and Daughterty.
The birth record showed that his father was a farmer. Confirmation of that information was shown in a declaration made by his older sister Emma Thompson in 1932 at Toronto.
A later record showed that he married Elizabeth Jane Morton on 24 April 1907 at Tweed, in Hastings County, Ontario. The marriage record showed his occupation as tinsmith.
There is a grave-marker at Prospect Cemetery, Toronto, for Alexander Thopson (rather than Thompson) - with no middle name or initial - born in 1881, who died on 16 August 1944. But is it the same person? Absence of middle names and other identifying information makes it impossible to know for certain.
The marker indicates that "Alexander Thomson" had been a Lance Corporal in the 21st Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, during World War I.
Thomson/Thompson... Dougherty/Docherty/Daugherty... shifting names and spellings make for pure guesswork in identification.
