father Isaac Thompson in 1870 census, Moore Co NC
Parasina (Passie) was born in 1856. She was the daughter of Isaac Thompson and Katherine Johnson. She passed away in 1948.
From memory and memoriabilia of Marianne Muse:
As young niece of Uncle Cicero Gordon Muse, I went with my sister Carol Muse and father and mother, Barney M. Muse and Madalyn Chambless Muse, to visit our Uncle Gordon in North Carolina. I have tried to remember and to record the exact date of the visit. Since I know that Cicero Gordon was destined to die in 1947 before his own grandmother Parasina Thompson Moffitt died in 1948, I and my family had to have been to visit Uncle Gordon no later than late 1946 or early 1947, soon after my father Barney Muse had returned from the Philippines and occupation of Japan in the Second World War. We were going to visit at this time because Gordon was very ill with a serious heart condition.
Many years later, after my older sister Carol had told me that she remembered meeting a very elderly great-grandmother while on this visit to NC, I found an old photograph, which by identification of places and persons, turned out to be a photo of vintage 1916 to possibly as late as 1917, taken by grandfather Charles Duncan Muse, whom I had known only by story and family reputation. He was my father's father, son-in-law to Parasina. Thompson Moffitt.
The photo and others similar to it, marked the occasion of family reunion in North Carolina at the Moffitt place in Sanford, NC. On one end of a long front porch with columns, a woman sits in a rocking chair looking toward a young mother-- probably her daughter-- and the infant grandchild held by the daughter. Another matching photo, except for its featuring of a man holding the same infant , began to take its place in the puzzle about identities of time and place. I had already seen that Parasina's daughter Beulah had married an Archibald Burkhead in Lee Co NC in 1914. Now, in this photo with the woman in the background in the rocking-chair, what I was looking at, in the foreground, was, undoubtedly, this Beulah with her first or second child, while Parasina ("Passie" Thompson Moffitt born 1856) looked on from the rocking chair on the porch of her home in Sanford, NC. All the appearances fit; Parasina at this point in time in the photo, appears to be a youngish 60-year-old gazing at her young daughter Beulah with the new grandchild--all this, a little over one hundred years ago.
