Is this the same James Thompson?

I Do hereby Certify that James Thompson served as a Soldier in Captain Arbuckle's Company of Regulars from the 12th September 1775 until August 14th 1776 and was then appointed Lieutenant to Captain McKee and Served as such until the 10th of October 1778 at which time he quit the Service. Given under my hand this 20th December 1799 S/ Jas. McNutt, Lieut. 12th V. R. [James McNutt]
