Charles Edward was born in Standish, Maine, in 1832, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Young) Thompson.
He had a first wife Caroline of whom we’ve been unable to discover much about. They were living together in Malden, Mass., as early as 1855,[1] and at the time of the 1860 census, they had a 4 year old daughter Alice. Charles was working at the rubber factory at this time. [2]
At the age of 28, he enlisted to serve in the Civil War on May 25, 1861, describing his occupation as a carpenter. He mustered in as a musician in the company band of the Massachusetts 2nd Infantry Regiment and was discharged August 16, 1862.
His first wife Caroline appears to have died sometime before 1868, when he remarried to Lizzie Cross on January 13 of that year. They remained in Malden, where Charles earned a living as a carpenter[3] and rubber worker[4].
Charles died in 1917.[5] He was buried at the Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose, Mass, where his second wife was buried with him the following year.[6]
