Henry was born in 1850 to Octavius Thompson and Phoebe Downing in Hamilton, Ontario.
When thirteen years of age Henry commenced work with W.C. Chewett in Toronto to learn the printing business and the firm was taken over in 1866 by Copp Clark Company with whom Henry had 70 years of unbroken service and 42 of those years were as its President. He retired in April 1936.[1]
Henry passed away 31 May 1937[2] and was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.[3]
