Nancy's birth date, 16 Feb 1795, was entered into family records held in the minutes of the Bush River Quaker Meeting at Newberry, North Carolina.[1] Her parents were Quakers, Richard Thompson and Susannah Stedman who were married within the Bush River Meeting House in 1782.[2]
Nancy married fellow Quaker, Mercer Brown, out of unity though, by license at the Preble County Court House, Ohio; "... on the tenth day of October 1813 Certified by me Alexander Pugh J.P."[3]
Nancy and Mercer were recorded in the United States Censuses of 1850 and 1860 residing at Noble Township, Cass County, Indiana. [4][5] By the 1870 Census, Nancy was widowed, and blind, and was nursed by her daughter, Phebe. The two women resided with their son and brother, Levi, at his home in Clay Township, Cass County.[6]
Nancy died on 20 Mar 1878 at Logansport, Cass Country, and was buried there at the Mount Hope Cemetery.[7]
