Except as otherwise footnoted, the following adapted from Seward County Kansas.[1]
Mary was born 7 Jun 1863 at Knox County, Kentucky. Her parents are presently unknown.
In 1888 she married Lincoln Handy.[2] By covered wagon the family moved to Seward County, Kansas on 20 Sep 1906 taking six days to make the journey. They arrived in Plains, Kansas late one evening and the town was mostly flooded due to heavy rain. The next day they drove south to uncle Temas Lathrop's farm where they lived while their soddie was constructed.
The Handy farmstead was located on the SE quarter of section 26-31-____ in Fargo Township, Seward County. Their sod house was finished in 20 days with the help of Uncle Temas and others. Here the family raised horses, cows, corn, milo and wheat. At this time, Kismet did not yet exist so obtaining supplies meant a long cross country trip to Plains, Kansas.
The Handys lived on their farmstead the remainder of their lives.[3][4][5] Mary passed way 8 Apr 1932 and is interred at the Kismet (Kansas) Cemetery.[6]

It may be seen that the AGBI contains a reference to Mary Louise Thompson b 1863 in The Howland Heirs by Wm Morrell Emery on pg 142. However, no one of this or similar name seems to appear in the manuscript (available online at Family Search).
Possibly the daughter of John R and Elizabeth Thompson living in Dixon, Webster, Kentucky in 1870 US Census. Her possible family not yet found in Kansas before 1888.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
