Katrina was born in 1834. She was married to Lorens Frederich Nielsen. She passed away in 1898 at Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia.
According to church documents, Katrina's husband, Lorenz left Katrina and their small first born child Helene, behind while he came to Australia alone - at some point after the 1860 census (taken on February 1st). Presumably setting up a life for them here.
Katrina was raped on the docks of Augustenborg in 1864, while her husband was in Australia and became pregnant with Thomas. This is recorded in the Ketting church books under Thomas's birth and baptism, Lorenz is specifically mentioned to be absent in Australia and father unknown. At this point in time, Denmark and the region in which they lived was at war, German soldiers had taken over the area from the Danish troops. That being the case, Thomas was raised within the family and brought with them when they travelled to Australia on the "Wimmera", from London in 1867. At this current time of writing, I am still trying to confirm when Lorenz returned to Denmark to collect his family or if he met them in London, perhaps his younger brother Carl accompanied her to meet him there. There is a possible departure in 1867 from Melbourne to England that may fit under L.F. Nielsen (needs to be confirmed) which would have allowed for him to meet them there and come straight back.
The family settled in Muckleford, had a farm and also did some mining. Katrina died in 1898, and had many grandchildren.
