Thomas Thomsen was born on 22 May 1861 in Lendum parish, Hjørring, Denmark.[1][2][3][4] His father, J. Thompson, was 26 and his mother, Martine, was 21. The family immigrated to the US in 1868, where they likely changed the spelling of their name to 'Thompson.'
After his father died in 1870, his mother remarried and Thomas lived with his new stepfather, Louis Peterson, in Labette County.
On October 25, 1884, he married Jenettie M "Nettie" COOL in Labette, Kansas. In 1889, they moved to Indian Territory, near Bluejacket, in current day Craig County, Oklahoma with their children, Bernice and John. They lived with Jenettie's parents, James and Mary Ann Cool, and her brother Isaac. According to the Cherokee Nation census of 1890, they owned 8 horses, 4 cattle, and 12 hogs, and Thomas was employed by a George Thornton.
The couple had two children during their marriage. Jenettie died sometime before the 1900 census, when Thomas is listed as a widower. He died on May 18, 1915, and was buried two days later in Gilmore, Iowa at the age of 53.[5] At the time, he was living with his half sister, Maggie (Peterson) Wood and her husband, Jessie Wood.[6][7]
