Biography

Florence Izet Graeme Thomson was born in Bristol on the 14th of March 1834 and was baptised a Methodist on the 6th of January 1835. She was daughter of Andrew Thomson and his wife, Theodosia Lewis. [1]Her father died in 1842. [2] and in 1851 Florence was living at Clifton in Gloucestershire with her mother and sister. [3]

She married widower Sisley John Batten, son of John Batten of Rochester and his wife, Sarah Prall, a captain in the service of the East India Company, in Kensington Parish Church on the 15th of July 1854. [4]

The building in which she was married was pulled down and replaced about 1870. [5]

In less than two years Florence had started raising a family in Burma.

By 1871 Florence was back in England with the children. [6] Sisley joined them later. [7]

Sisley died at home at 14 Notting Hill Square on the night of 10/11 January 1887 leaving his family decently provided for. [8]By 1891 Florence and her daughter , Katherine had moved to Manor Farm in the Hampshire village of Shalden. [9] Manor Farmhouse at Shalden is a late-medieval hall house, built with a timber-framed structure that covers two stories and dates from the 16th century. [10]

At the 1901 Census Florence and her daughter, Margaret, were staying at Anstey House in Alton, home of widow Isabella Blake. [11]

Florence died on the 7th of November 1912. [12][13]
