John and Jean and their children probably moved from Lesmahagow to Dalserf (a neighbouring parish) in the mid 1730s, after Margaret was born. The rest of their children were born in Dalserf. It is likely that their second eldest daughter Elizabeth died in Dalserf in Aug 1740[8], prompting them to give the name Elizabeth to their next daughter, born in 1744[7].
Jean presumably passed away sometime in the 1770s in Scotland (see note below).
Research Notes
There are a number of Jean Hamilton/Thomson death entries in ScotlandsPeople between 1740-1780, with a couple in Dalserf. One of them still may be the correct Jean, but the actual images need to be viewed to confirm. There is a Jean Hamilton buried in the Lesmahagow Old Parish Churchyard (d. 1798) (Find A Grave: Memorial #132637215) who could also be a possibility

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jean by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jean:
