I was born an addition to the Scarborough, Ontario Thomsons in 1937. My family has resided in the area since 1797. My 3rd great grandfather, David and wife Mary were the first settlers in Scarborough followed by brothers Andrew and Archibald (UEL). Many notables have come out of the family including Lord Thomson of Fleet, Roy Thomson.
I got the genealogy bug from my aunt Ethel (Thomson) MacPherson, who had gathered her genealogy since 1944, and the work of my mother Sadie Sipprell. Ethel published "Descendants of David Thomson and Mary Glendenning" in 1958. I have continued with their work since 2002 and have established a substantial database of both families. I got a major boost from Harold Fritz Sipprell's 1969 book, "William Siprell, Sr. and the Family He Founded"
Genealogical charts have been reproduced on my website www.whisperspast.ca
The Thomson genealogies are well established in Wikitree and I have not had activity with them. My thrust has been with the descendants of William Sipprell and filling gaps in existing family data.
What I did discover on Wikitree, thanks to the great work of the U.K. Royals team, that my 6th great grandfather, Adam Thomson (1652-1710) married a Margaret Cranstoun who was a descendant of both Scottish and English royalty. Her ancestry can be traced back past Charlemagne.
