James Thomson was born in Scotland.

James was born in Lesmahagow on 23 March 1725. He was the third of nine children of William Thomson and Elizabeth Hamilton.^[1]

James married Mary Lean at Lesmahagow on 7 June 1751. ^[2] They had nine children
