1850 - United States Federal Census - In 1850, G. W. Thorn, 33, was a grain miller in Libery, Clinton County, Iowa. Living with him were his wife, Lucinda, 25, and their newborn daughter, Lovisa. Also in the household was Lucinda's 18-year-old sister, Phebe and L,H., Shoemaker, 48 and William H. Emerson, 18. Emerson works in a sawmill and Shoemaker is also a miller.[1]
1860 - United States Federal Census - In 1860, George W. Thorne, 43, was living in Liberty, Clinton County, Iowa, with his wife, Lucinda, 31, and their children Lovisa A., 11; Arminda E. 9; Hanah P., 6; Harrold C., 4; and William C., 2. Also living with the family is Gardner Maine, 35. George is listed as a miller and Gardner as a farmer. Living next to the family is Jesse Stine and his wife, Phebe - the sister of Lucinda Thorn.[2]
