Biography

Albern J. Thornton was born circa 1816 in Johnston County, North Carolina to Felix Thornton and Mary Celetha Holly (daughter of John Holly).[1] He came from North Carolina to Schuyler County, Illinois with his parents and is listed in 1820 in Smith County, Tennessee.

He married Nancy Moore on 7 Jan 1839 in Schuyler County, Illinois.[2] She was born circa 1822 in Carter County, Tennessee to James S. Moore and Marima Reno.

Although Albern is listed as died 9 Sep 1880 in Browning Township, Schuyler County, Illinois, there are some conflicting data to indicate otherwise.[1][3] The 1880 Mortality Schedules indicate Mar 1880[4], Cemeteries of Browning Township indicate 9 Feb 1880[5] and I have a notation for an unconfirmed obituary dated 20 Feb 1880.[6] Alburn was buried in the Old Ridgeville Cemetery, Browning Township, Schuyler County, Illinois.[1] I have visited this cemetery and found no headstone for his nor Nancy's grave site.[7]
