George Mason Dallas Thornton, Sr. was born 18 Oct 1845 in Browning, Schuyler County, Illinois to Albern J. Thornton and Nancy Moore.[1]
He married Polly Ann Luttrell, the daughter of William "Lewis" (Louis) Luttrell and Mahala Ann Luttrell, on 11 Sep 1871 in Schuyler County, Illinois.[2]
George and his family migrated to Camden County, Missouri around 1883-1884 and he died there on 18 May 1886 in Branch Place, Camden County, Missouri. George had suffered from Epileptic Convulsions due to an accident during the Civil War and was prone to seizures.[3] He served as a Private in Company C, 119 Illinois Infantry from Jan 1864 to Aug 1865 in the Union Army.[4] His family returned home to find him deceased by the fireplace.[5] He was buried on 19 May 1886 in the Freedom Church of Christ Cemetery (New Freedom Cemetery), Linn Creek, Camden County, Missouri, USA.[1]

George M. D. Thornton, son of Albern Thornton, was a Union soldier and was given ground by the governor for his service. He lived near Horse Shoe Bend in Missouri (Glaze Twp.), Branch Place, Camden County address.
