Solomon Thornton, born in VA, 1745, died in Savannah, GA, 1809, served as a private, Georgia Line, received bounty grant of land for his service, Wilkes Co. Georgia, wife Sarah ____, 10 children listed.

Sons of the American Revolution Membership Applications, 1889-1970, Application of John Holtzclaw McCall, dated February 18, 1931, names Solomon Thornton as a soldier during the Revolutionary War, declares that he received grants of land in Wilkes and Washington Counties, GA for his service.
  • Thorntons of Virginia from "Historical Southern Families, Vol. XII," by Mrs. John Bennett Bodie, Solomon Thornton was the son of John and Agatha Thornton, born about 1745, died in 1809 in Wilkes County, Georgia, a soldier in the Revolutionary War as were his brothers, William & Samuel, married Sarah Acree, probably the daughter of Isaac Acre. Will dated January 18, 1809 and Probated March 1, 1809, Wilkes Co., GA. According to the will, had the following children: William; Martin; John; Nancy, wife of John Wilson Cooper; Judith, wife of Samuel Hunter; Mary (Polly), wife of Elisha Reed; Elizabeth; Agatha (Aggie), wife of Bernard H. Hughes; Catherine, wife of William Henderson & Joshua, "May have died young as he does not appear in the the distribution of Solomon's Estate in 1814 & 1819.
