Thomas Tharpe "Thorpe" was born in 1633 in England to William Thorp and his wife, Margaret and was baptized on 28 Oct 1633 in St Michael's Parish, Bassinshaw, London, London, England.[1]
He arrived in Virginia in 1654 and John Cox sponsored him in Lancaster, VA.
He married Alice (last name unknown) and they had 3 children---William (b 1662), Thomas (1664-May 1704), and Elizabeth(b 1601). Alice died after 6 Feb 1666/7 in Sittingbourne Parish, Rappahannock County, VA.
He and Henry (Hendrick) Lucas bought 105 acres for their families in Rappahannock Co, VA on 28 FEb 1662 and again on 20 Oct 1662.
After Alice died Henry gave (deeded) Alice half of the land that he and Thomas had purchased with the stipulation that the land go to her oldest son, William, when she died so that the land would remain with the family.
Thomas died before 6 Feb 1667 because that is when Henry Lucas gave Alice half of the land that he and Thomas bought together, but it had to go to William, the eldest son, upon Alice's death.
Note: Many people believe that he was the son of William, son of George Thorpe (brother of John) but that isn't true. In 2008 my husband and I went to Berkeley, Gloucestershire and I had the opportunity to talk to the historian at the Berkeley Castle. According to him, George did have a son named William, who had a son and a daughter. The daughter never married and the son had 2 children, George and Anna, who never had any children. It was the end of that Thorpe line. Thomas Thorp in VA does NOT descend from George of the Berkeley Hundred!See #7 under Sources.

7. Historian at Berkeley Castle, Gloucestershire, England---Thomas does NOT descend from George Thorpe of the Berkeley Hundred. He said it was impossible because George had 4 children and only his son William had 2 children, George and Anna. Anna never married and George married, but did not have any children. First of all, I would love to merge with other people but I cannot merge with anyone who believes Thomas Thorp is the son of William Thorp, son of George Thorp. For many years I believed that was true but in 2008 my husband and I went to Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England and I took my genealogy papers with me. I was very fortunate in being able to talk to the historian at the Berkeley Castle. He looked at my genealogy with William, son of George with a son named Thomas and told me it was impossible. He told me that William had only 2 children--George and Anna and Anna never married and George, although he married, never had any children. I asked about the possibility of Thomas being an illegitamate son of William, but he said definitely not. William never left the environs of Berkeley and everyone would have known about an illegitimate son. He said it was "the end of that Thorp line."
Robin--First of all, I am Thorpe 3389 and I tried to tell you that Thorpe 481 has completely different parents and believes Thomas Thorpe is from George Thorpe of the Berkeley Hundred, He isn't. I used to believe that too---until I talked to the historian at the Berkeley Castle who set me straight. That George had 4 children and only his son William had children--George and Anna. Anna never married and George never had children so it was the end of the Thorpe line. William never had a son named Thomas. I'm sorry, but I believe the historian!
I think the problem stems from the fact that many people believe Thomas Thorp b 1695 was related to George Thorpe of the Berkeley Hundred. He wasn't. He is related to George's brother, John. I used to think that he was related to George, also, until we went to Berkeley, Gloucestershire, and I had the opportunity to speak to the historian at the Berkeley Castle, George had 4 children and only 1 (William) married. He had 2 children, Anna and George. Anna never married and George never had any children, so as the historian said, " That was the end of that Thorp line."
George's (the one who was in the Berkeley Hundred) had a brother John who had a son named William. William married Margaret (last name unknown) and they had a son named Thomas b 28 Oct 1633 St Michael BassinshawBAssishaw (I will have to recheck the spelling) Parish, London, London, England who landed in VA in 1654, married Alice and had Thomas, William, and Elizabeth.
Son Thomas (1664- 1704) married Florinda Goode and their son Thomas (1695-1764) married 3 times and had children by each wife. Only his third wife's name is known--Frances Dorcas Blott. If you look at when the children were born you have 4 born before 1720, with the second wife the children are born in the 1730's and with Frances they were born in the 1740's.
Thorpe-481 and Thorpe-3389 do not represent the same person because: Thomas Thorpe 1695 is the son of Thomas Thorpe 1664 and Florinda Goode---not the brother!
Can you explain this remark? The merge requested is for two men both born in the 1630s. When duplicates exist, we merge them. It may look like there are brothers, but, they are duplicate profiles that need merging. If you need help, please ask.
Thorpe-3389 and Thorpe-481 appear to represent the same person because: these men from the citations on their profiles about land, are intended to be the same person. However, while they both have fathers named William, those men appear to be different. Thorpe -3389 appears to have better research done, and probably has the correct father.....please discuss
