He was son of John Newton Threlfall and Margaret Brooks.^[1]

1942: graduated from Purdue University in mechanical engineering

1943: enlisted in US Navy, serving through 1947; lieutenant

Joined NEHGS in 1963; later served as Trustee; frequent contributor to the Register; wrote twelve books. Survived by Eila Maarit Hyyryläinen (wife of 68 years; they married June 26, 1949 in Madison, Wisconsin), four children; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. His brother Robert pre-deceased him.
