Biography

Francis's biography is neatly summarised on his memorial inscription in Ullenhall church, Warwickshire:

Here lieth the body of Francis Throckmorton Esquire, borne in the Citie of Mantua, in Italy, son and heir unto Michael Throckmorton Esquire, and of Agnes Hide of Southamptonshire, which Michael was born at Coughton-Court in the Countie of Warwick, and youngest brother to Sir George Throkmorton of Coughton aforesaid Knight. After that the said Michaell had lived many years in Italy, in good and great reputation, with bountifull Hospitalitie, entertaining most of the Noblemen and gents of England that had occasion to come that way, and did returne into England in the beginning of the reigne of Q. Mary, and received her gift of the Manors of Honily, Blackwell, Packhurst, Winderton, Ullenhall in Ullenhall, and others, as appeareth in her Majesties Letters Patent, bearing date in the first year of her reign: and after went into Italy againe, where he departed this life, and lieth buried in S. Martin's Church in the said Citie of Mantua, under a fair Tombe. The said Francis married Judith Tracie, daughter of Richard Tracie of Stanway in the Countie of Gloucester Esquire, and of Barbara Lucy of Charlecote in the County of Warwick, and sister to Sir Paul Tracie Baronet, and had by her six Children, whereof three, that is to say Francis, Michael, and Judith here departed this life without issue, and the other three are living; that is to say John, Michael, and Judith Anno Dom. 1617, and in the fifteenth year of the reign of our Lord James the 1st, King of England.[1]

Francis was enrolled in the Inner Temple in 1576.[2]

A marriage licence was granted on 25 Feb 1578/79 to Francis Throckmorton, of the Inner Temple, Gent., and Judith Tracy, Spinster, of Islington, Middx.[3]

A daughter Judith was christened on 30 Apr 1587 in Banbury[4]
