OBITUARY: Helen J. Throckmorton, age 95, went to eternal rest February 8, 2019 in Wichita, Kansas, where she was born September 7, 1923; the daughter of Rev. J, Russell and Helen Lawrence Throckmorton. She graduated high school in Wichita but came to Boulder, Colorado for her graduate and doctorate degrees. Helen retired from Wichita State University as Professor Emeritus in English in 1992. Throughout her life she enjoyed camping and Colorado trout fishing, thus it was no surprise when she began to summer in Ouray every year beginning in 1972. She renovated an 1883 miner’s cabin and opened it to family and friends for all to share her love of the Rocky Mountains. None will ever forget her caring nature, her wisdom, her intellect and zest for life. As a prolific poetry and prose writer, let’s not forget her way with words, giving way to winning family Scrabble games. She is survived by her brother, Robert W Throckmorton (Karen), nephews Gregory, Douglas (Sheri) and Bradley and their children Ryan, Caroline, Grayson, Victoria, Evan. A memorial service will be held Wichita, Kansas in the coming spring, date to be determined.
