Harry was born on 23rd August 1894 at 21 Mayor St, Pendleton, Salford, Lancashire, UK.[1] On his birth certificate his father is named as Frederick William Throup and his mother Sarah Ann Throup formerly Roscoe. At the 1901 census [2]Harry (aged 6) was living at 12 Leake Street, Salford. Others living at the same address were Frederick W, Sarah A, Edith and George Throup. In 1911 Harry (aged 16) was living at 33 Pimlot Street, Pendleton, Salford, his occupation was Junior Porter with a railway company[3]. Sarah Ann and Sarah Alice Throup were living at the same address.
He served in France during the Great War in the Royal Army Service Corps but was invalided home[4].
On 4th September 1915 Harry married Elizabeth Ann Higginbotham at Primitive Methodist Chapel, Cemetery Road, Southport, Lancashire. [5] On his marriage certificate Harry's rank or profession is given as "Locomotive Engine Cleaner". Harry and Elizabeth had a daughter and four sons and also fostered another boy. One son (George Frederick 'Eric') was lost on HMS Glorious in 1940[6]. The family lived at various addresses in Rusholme and Fallowfield. After the war Harry worked as a postman[7] but by 1950 he had retired due to ill health.[8]
Harry passed away on 26th November 1977 at his daughter's house in Northolt. [9]
