Biography

Joseph was born in 1773 in Kildwick, Yorkshire and was christened at St. James Church, Silsden on the 23rd January 1774[1] . His parents were named at his christening as William Throup (a farmer) and Elizabeth [1].

He married Mary Laycock on the 10th November 1795 at St. Andrew's Church, Kildwick-in-Craven[1]. Joseph and Mary had at least 11 children.

Joseph didn't stray far from his birthplace, he owned a slaughterhouse in Bradley and farmed at Hamblethorpe[2].

He passed away in August 1838 at Hamblethorpe, Bradley[1] and was buried at St Andrew's Church, Kildwick on the 8th September 1838 [1].

In the book Across Throup's Bridge by Malcolm Throup and Margaret Throup Lancaster (ISBN 0 9511096 0 X) Joseph's birth date is given as 1770. There was a Joseph Throup born in 1770 in the Kildwick area but he died in infancy.
