Biography

Daisy Thurston's birth was registered in the Cambridge district, during the March 1894 quarter, as Ethel Daisey Thurston. [1] She is the daughter of Albert Thurston and Sabina Wayman. Her parents had a change of heart about her name, for they called her Daisy, and named a later daughter Ethel.

1901 Census: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. Daisy is 7-years old. Apart from her parents (Albert (38) and Sabina (36) there are six siblings at home on census night: Albert (17), Mabel(13), Bertie (9), Daisy (7), Tom (6), Ethel (3) and Richard, aged 4 months. [2]

1911 Census: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. Daisy is 17 years old, single, working as a Domestic Servant. Her father, Albert is 49, a General labourer, born Cambridge. Mother, Sabina, is 46 years old, born Kingston, and works as a Collage Bedmaker's Help. Daisy three siblings at home on census night, all born Cambridge: Daisy (17), Tom (16), Ethel (13) and Richard G. (11). [3]

In 1915, as Daisy Thurston, she married John C. Fordham, their marriage being registered during the December quarter of that year. [4]

The 1939 England and Wales Register, taken 29th September, has Ethel Fordham (born 2 Feb 1894) and John C. Fordham (born 24 Nov 1894) living at 179 Ross Street, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. Ethel works as an Office Cleaner, and her husband is a Builder Labourer. In the household with them are Claude Fordham (born 27 Sep 1920), single, Shop-Assistant, and Kathleen Fordham (born 18 Feb 1922), single, Flat Hand Machinist. [5]
