According to records from the Daughters of the American Revolution, William Thurston was born circa 1740, in England, and died in 1817, in Goochland county, Virginia. [1] William enlisted in the military, where he served as a drummer and a fifer for Captain Woodson, Captain Payne and Captain Mennis, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Ball, Colonel Mathews and Colonel Parker. [2]
William Thurston also provided supplies in support of the Continental Army. He is honored for his military and patriotic service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as DAR Ancestor #A115224. DAR records indicate that his wife's name was "Jennie Jones." Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their son, George Washington Thurston, who married Ruth "Nancy" Sullivan. [3]
